Connection
by Dave Rhodes
I don't want to become too familiar
With Simpson Springs, Canyon or Deep Creek.
I shouldn't spend much time
At Lookout Pass, Schell or Antelope Springs.
I won't hang around very long
At
I can't let them become commonplace . . .
Those old haunts of my ancestors.
Where they rode the express
And drove the stage.
Where they worked and sweat
And memories made.
I want my visits to be fresh and clear
And my senses keen.
I want to thrill at the smell of the sage
And feel their spirits sing.
After a while in one place
It becomes polluted by my mind.
That's when it's time to leave
And wait for a pure view and smell.
So, I will refrain from frequenting
These places so much.
And dream of returning when it's right . . .
To feel their spirits touch mine.
